"Not sure where this would go, but..."

As pro-active as everyone in this group is, I figure someone here would have some thoughts on this matter.

From this story here:
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/metropolitan/3207741

He said about 4,800 of the state's 42,000 registered sex offenders live in Houston, but he was not sure how many had not registered or had allowed their registration to lapse. Andy Kahan, the mayor's crime-victim advocate, said there are about 300 convicted sex offenders in the area whose whereabouts are unknown.

As a parent, this worries the heck outta me, anyone have any thoughts on how to go about tracking these remaining 300 down? Is it even worth the trouble? How would one start on this or at least make sure they're not in or near my neighborhood?

Not trying to start any type of flame war or anything non-productive, I'm only asking because of the determination I see in a lot of the folks here.

Seems entirely off topic. Not even remotely related to illegal signs. I locked the topic for this reason.
