HI-Here in Queens, NYC we have been working steadily with the
Enforcement Unit of the Dept of Sanitation. Besides our many
groups out removing signs, we have been reporting the major
offenders to the DOS. Once reported, the DOS agent goes out,
removes the sign, takes it back to their office, figures out
exactly who and where the company is and mails a summons to
them. For the fiscal year ending june 30, 2008, over 3000
summonses have been issued in QUeens County alone. The fines,
I believe, start at $75 a pop. So its becoming expensive for
offenders, but many still deface public property. CAGE groups
are still out there removing thousands of signs each year. So
we want to encourage everyone else to do the same. You are
definately not alone and together WE are all making a
difference! Can you imagine the mess if we werent all out
doing this???
