"we tow junk cars"

This type of business has been making a mess in Charlotte for some time now. Recently CE got together with local police, and set up a sting. They requested someone pick up a car. the man that arrived got fined $8,700 and was jailed because he had no driving license and the plate did not belong to his truck. As doglovvrr says,"people who post illegal signs often break other laws "

carman,

That is great news!! Charlotte has been active, proactive, innovative, and persistent over a period of years. The "we buy cars" signs in Dallas area are one of the top spammers and have been at it for several years. There was one sting here several years ago but it barely made a dent. I think there are at least a handful of competing junk car buyers and we need more CE action.

What can you tell us about the level of street spam in recent years in Charlotte? I hope all of the efforts have led to a city where spam is the exception rather than the rule. If that is the case, it sure would be nice for some national press coverage to show what works.

Thanks for posting the good news.

I was in Charlotte for a convention a couple of months ago and I was extremely impressed that I didn’t see a single sign. Keep up the great work Charlotte.

Making a difference and keeping it clean

Charlotte has more than enough street spam, a visitor who does not go far from center city will not see any spam. But Charlotte has a lot of suburbs, and there is plenty of spam if you know where to look.

One effective tool is to keep a list of street spam contact info., and call and say someone you know needs that product or service, call him at this no. And give other spammers' phone numbers. Soon they are calling one another trying to make sales. After they get tired of that call and tell them that junk signs produce junk phone calls.

These are junkyard people around here. They offer $150 and up for any car. If the car is obviously worth $1000 to $2000, they will offer $300. They don't pay fair prices, meaning they pay way below wholesale. Concerning a car obviously worth more than the junkyard range, they will not even make an offer.
