1 800 SPA SALE and SignPostersUSA blighted Orange County, California and the city of Long Beach this weekend.
The junk signs read:
HOT TUB BLOW OUT This Weekend 1 800 SPA SALE
This is part of their ongoing spamming of America discussed in detail in this Forum.
Thanks to all of you and your legitimate outrage at these litterers, I was motivated to yank nearly 200 of the signs Saturday. They had gone up overnight and most barely saw an hour or two of morning sunlight before they ended up sliced and in the Dumpster. The more aggressive we are in pulling their garbage, the quicker they will learn that this form of advertising is a non-starter. They don't listen to reason or obey laws, so killing their action is the only way to stop 1 800 SPA SALE and SignPostersUSA.
Plus, I hope everyone will keeping calling both companies and let them know that dozens of people are organizing to keep their junk out of our cities no matter where they plant their trash. I plan on doing so on a regular basis.
For those of you also fighting these spammers, I believe we are indeed causing them grief. In addition to their normal posting on rights-of-way on major streets, I also noticed they are now posting inside parking entrances and exits for malls and shopping centers. It's an attempt for visibility without being too easily seen by sign pullers like us who drive down major streets spotting spam from our cars. Didn't work for them yesterday.
Both SignPostersUSA and 1 800 SPA SALE are truly horrific spammers. Here, they spammed *every* corner of major intersections with up to eight signs. Sometimes, I picked up dozens of signs within a quarter of a mile.
I'll share a few more observations:
In small print at the bottom of the signs is evidence once again that SignPostersUSA is doing the dirty work. This time, their so-called credit line has interesting new phrasing: "SignPostersUSA is 100% responsible for posting this sign, please contact SignPostersUSA at 1-888-843-8389 or 801-671-7123."
Aside from the bad punctuation, it tells me that our calls to the 1 800 SPA SALE creeps generated conversations between them and SignPostersUSA so that this so-called disclaimer is a way of saying, "yell at us, not 1 800 SPA SALE" when your community gets spammed.
Let's keep calling both numbers and railing against the junk signs.
Another interesting find. A small newspaper ad for the show in the Orange County Register shows this website: www.poolandspashow.com
It took a few attempts but the site finally loaded. It seems that there is a reference to Brasco Productions, although I couldn't find anything on them via a Google search. They may be the morons behind these shows. The site has a calendar where we can be alerted to upcoming events in order to plan street spam removal. The site loaded so slowly that this feature didn't work for me, so I'll try again.
Keep an eye out, though, the site says their are upcoming shows in these cities: Detroit, Chicago, San Diego, Seattle, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Cleveland, Indianapolis, St. Louis and "many more to come."
One other observation. When I call 1 800 SPA SALE, I get a recording to the effect that "we are so busy because of the popularity of our spa sale that we can't answer your call so please leave a message." These guys aren't the swiftest of marketeers. Not only do their signs not give any indication about where the show is being held, but their voicemail doesn't either. I was able to find out that it was at the Anaheim Convention Center, but you'd really have to be a detective to figure out how to attend one of their events.
By the way, with just the addion of one letter 1 800 SPA SALE becomes 1 800 SPAM SALE. That's truth in advertising.
"It's 10 p.m. Do you know what Dumpster your street spam is sleeping in?"
