Austin Texas has a city-sponsored program through which citizens can get training to become authorized to remove and report illegal signs in Austin. A number of volunteer sign sharks have worked for more than two years to get the city to establish this program. Congratulations to these volunteers for relentless pressure to get the city to do this and to take other actions to deal with illegal signs. The volunteers encountered one obstacle after another but kept the pressure on. There are still some issues in Austin so it is too soon to declare this a success but it certainly is excellent progress.
I don't live in Austin so I can't tell you the details of the program. However, you can join the Yahoo group mentioned below and check the message files.
