"Austin TX Sign Ranger Program"

Austin Texas has a city-sponsored program through which citizens can get training to become authorized to remove and report illegal signs in Austin. A number of volunteer sign sharks have worked for more than two years to get the city to establish this program. Congratulations to these volunteers for relentless pressure to get the city to do this and to take other actions to deal with illegal signs. The volunteers encountered one obstacle after another but kept the pressure on. There are still some issues in Austin so it is too soon to declare this a success but it certainly is excellent progress.

I don't live in Austin so I can't tell you the details of the program. However, you can join the Yahoo group mentioned below and check the message files.

Ladies and Gents,

The following training opportunities have been scheduled for your
consideration. There will be 3 sessions:

(1) Volunteer Orientation which new volunteers
who have not received any training will be required
to attend. This training, along with all others will be
held at 1009 E. 11th St., 1st Floor Conference Rm.
The date and time for this training is Oct. 11, 6p-7:30p.

(2) Several of our current Civil Defense volunteers have expressed an
interest in the adhoc duty of Disabled Parking Enforcement. This is
your opportunity to become certified to issue citations to those who
disregard the law. This training will be Oct. 12, 1-4:30p.

(3) Sign Ranger training entails the picking up,
documenting, and disposal of the City's Bandit Signs.
If interested, please attend this session Oct 13, 1-5p.

Please respond to this email or call Danica Amador, CDB Admin, at
974.4730 to reserve a spot.

Additionally, we encourage you to talk to your friends and neighbors in
an attempt to recruit them to the APD Volunteer Program.

Respectfully,
Sonia
