"A new insult, finally!"

The CAUSS mailbox got an email recently from one "Eric J Hott" who at least had the courtesy to call us something we haven't been called before, far as I can remember: "soccer moms and homos."

See below.

I am writing from Brandon, Florida. Today at a stop light I noticed a bright pink piece of paper stapled over a sign on a phone pole. The paper said " Want to help us get rid of these signs...... go to www.causs.org" or something to that effect. If I read about causs in the Tampa tribune...

Funny, given your "soccer moms and homos" remark below, I'd never figure you for the type who would read a newspaper.

or a comm. paper I made have thought you were on to something. However, after reading your homepage, and thinking about the childish way one of your supporters put the pink paper over the other sign, I think you suck!!!! Some jackass is putting the very thing you hate up over other peoples signs and making you look twice as stupid.

Lose some signs recently, did you?

Seems to me like a bunch of soccer moms and homos with nothing better to do came up with this 'causs'.

A little uncomfortable with your sexuality, there? Been getting those urges from your "feminine side" and it's making you nervous?

Get a job.

Got one. Also have a hobby, which is ripping down spam signs and taunting bozos like you.

Do you think he/she has a point about soccer moms? I suspect we have one or two soccer moms among our supporters but, given the number of soccer moms out there, maybe we can do more to enlist them to the CAUSS. After all, they do spend an inordinate amount of time driving around and probably waiting in their SUV's/minivans. They could put this time to good use by looking for and removing spam. In my experience, schools and soccer fields have always been havens for spam. How do we reach this target audience. Hmmm.... Maybe we could get some signs printed up.

We haven't heard from GulfShark yet.
I'm sure he can fill us in on what's happening.

Hmmm. Removal of stickered signs comes to mind.

Whose responsibility is that, and who should we actually count on to do it? Our past experiences in this area differ sharply.

Let's resolve that question head-on: right here, in another thread, or through private messages. I'm as tired of playing this game as you are.

Stickering, cutting, and defacing signs was a dismal tactical failure in my region two years ago.

Some sharks will sticker, cut, and deface illegal signs. It was a tremendous tactical success in Denver two years ago.

That's the way it is.

Art,

I hope you realize you are beating a dead horse on this issue of stickering signs. Let me ask that you simply accept that there are widely differing opinions on this issue. It is not a game. The only real resolution is to accept the fact that people differ in their opinions and probably always will. I am pretty sure if you continue to beat this dead horse, you will antagonize a number of people on this forum without any possible benefit other than possibly the enjoyment you might get from antagonizing people and beating a dead horse. For those who have not been through the stickering discussion before I can summarize it in three points:
1) CAUSS does not endorse or condone putting stickers on existing signs.
2) Some individuals who participate in CAUSS discussions do put stickers on signs.
3) There is pretty good evidence that stickers have enlisted more sharks which has led to significant reductions in spam in those neighborhoods and cities.

Art, I hope you will leave it at that.

Newbie,

The general topic has been discussed to death, and I'm not seeking to resurrect it. I accept stickering when it is executed responsibly.

The live-horse issue is closed-loop accountability.

Who is responsible for ensuring the removal of stickered signs before they start to stink and the flies start to gather?

I believe it should be the stickering or cutting shark.

That's a perfectly reasonable position, and it should antagonize nobody.

Art:

That's a reasonable point. I suggest that sharks who sticker consider removing the signs after a reasonable period of time which allows both the public and the spammer to see the sticker. Some sharks may want to do this and some may want to leave the stickered/disabled sign up for a relatively long time.

Anyone who doesn't like anything they see are welcome to remove it themselves.

Let's leave it at that.

A sign that I sharked three years ago is still up.

I wonder if it serves as a warning.

I'd like to have stickers made up, but the $$ situation, you know.

The true irony is how bitter their own medicine tastes.

I'm not a student of irony.

When I leave an area, it's clean. I respect those who take a few days longer to leave an area clean.
