I am writing to request that you crack down on the bandit and snipe signs that are proliferating on the streets and highways of Annandale and Northern Va. There is one used car company in my neighborhood that NAILS their illegal signs to live trees!
SB64 legalizes some snipe signs, which are currently illegal on state rights-of-way.. The General Assembly, by explicitly allowing campaign signs in the highway median sends the message that it is OK to leave commercial advertising in public space.
This is exactly the kind of behavior that causes citizens to loose faith in their government.
Please take another look at SB64: tighten up the regulations, instead of granting yourself special permission. Chasq, Annandale, VA
Why doesn't anybody mention CAUSS.ORG and the size of the problem on a national level. Some people, especially senators, might not even be aware of the size and scope these bandit signs would pose if it weren't for individuals on this site and others unknown who remove these eyescores on a regular basis.
I think any parties unaware of snipes, bandits, pop-up's, or whatever slang is used to describe these currently illegal signs, could go to this site and find the proof they need that this is a national problem. Corporations large or small, individuals rich or poor, will increase the use of these signs as a way to by-pass legitimate advertising mediums.
Current law makes these signs illegal. The purpose of local Code Enforcement against these signs, is to preserve the quality of life in neighborhoods across the country. Any casual observer could see that these signs are an eyesore, bypass current billboard advertising, and can be hard to regulate.
Definitely these snipe bandit signs should not be allowed in new legislation. And if it is, I would find the upscale neighborhood where these senators, and real estate people live, and spam the landscape outside their gated communities and see how they like it.

Typical politicians talking out of both sides of their mouths. Your not allowed to trash the landscape, preserve the natural beauty, not allowed to put in ROW,s can't be visible from street, got to keep signs on premise, cant profit from signs, you will be fined.
Oh wait, we changed our minds go ahead put (other} sign's up for three days,33.1-375.1 C 1.
And the local agents {code enforcement} can't enforce these signs.33.1-375.1 D.
Two pages of an old bill wiped out by 11 deadly words in paragraph C 1.

I wrote the Gov. I dont think he got it. He never replied. It been over a week
Please don't sign the bill. Your have eleven words of this new bill that will wipe out all the hard work of the two page old bill. 33.1-375.1 C 1 of the new bill states, exempt are, "others signs and advertising erected for no more than three days". This new bill will allow the landscapes in the ROW's to be trashed with signs that are cheap and easy to place. Realtors signs, commercial business signs, Joe the Plumber signs, and everbody in between will soon be hocking their services. Landscapes and ROW's along Virginia high-ways and by ways will be transformed into a collection of business advertising on the cheap.. The reason this bill got to the Virginia Senate is because of an on-going war against these current illegal signs. Particularly, members of the organization Causs.Org., and a local realtor named Mr. Small. Local Virginia citizens get involved to keep their street ROW's cleaned of many real estate developement signs and many other types of signage offering some commercial service, Virginia forum... 2005 to current date. It's a national problem. Local Code Enforcement agencies and volunteer citizens fight daily to remove and keep these illegal signs from appearing in their neighborhoods. When powerful people realize they are on the wrong side of these laws, they try to influence local politicians to change the law. I ask you to stick up for local volunteers, local Code Enforcement agencies. Preserve the Code as it now exist. Preserve the landscapes surrounding Virginia by- ways. A national coalition of volunteer citizens will thank you for it. (pops) at Causs .Org Nevada forum.
