"How can I find out more about the specific laws in my area of TX"

Is there a way to track down the laws that pertain to my area in TX? I live in Harris county but not in the Houston City limits. I keep seeing things about people calling the city to have large home builder signs removed from public land but I have no clue who to call for my area.

I'm sending you a PM regarding this question.
Also, I've listed a reliable contact that has a business in the 1960 area.

This person is very active in bandit sign removal and a tremendous amount of contacts, both in the Harris County Sheriffs Dept along with area constables.

He and his group have been extremely successful in cleaning up the NW part of Harris County.

Yes. I'd recommend you read Chapter 393 of the Texas Transportation Code. Don't worry, 393 is only 1-1/2 pages. I always keep a couple of copies in the car for quick reference or to hand out.

Here's the link that will take you directly to the Transportation Code...

Texas counties generally have no power to enact ordinances the way municipalities do, so you won’t find a set of Harris County ordinances pertaining to signage. You have to look to State law for the regulation of signage in unincorporated areas with county government and state agencies responsible for enforcement. Look to the Texas Transportation Code, Chapters 393 and 394.

>I keep seeing things about people calling the city to have large home builder signs removed from public land but I have no clue who to call for my area.

You don’t mention what part of Harris County you live in so you may need to make a few phone calls. If you’re interested in having 4x8 plywood signs removed that are illegally installed in the public right-of-way, there are two places to go depending on what road the signs are located.

For signs in the right-of-way of a state maintained or numbered road, call the Harris County TxDoT office at 713.934.5900 with a description and location of the signage. Usually TxDoT have been quick to respond. If they aren’t the right office for your particular area, they can direct you to the one that is.

For signs in the right-of-way of county roads, essentially all other roads public roads in the county, contact your precinct. You may want to start with Linda Gaskins, Precinct 3 Road and Bridge Coordinator at 281.463.6300. She is knowledgeable and helpful. Last year I worked with Precinct 3 to remove more than 15 - 4x8 signs in the public right of way at the north end of Hwy 99. I would think Ms Gaskins could direct you to the appropriate contact in other Harris County precincts if Precinct 3 isn’t the one you’re in.

Hope this helps.
