Ahhh - the giveway is the phrase "signs will be picked up Sunday night". This is the same trick furniture liquidators use across the country. They put their illegal spam out on the weekend when Code Enforcement is not on duty and pick it up again so they won't get caught.
Search for "Avenrich" furniture on the Colorado and general discussion forums for more information.
Our experience is that the best and most permanent wey to get rid of this spam is to involve Code Enforcement in every city where the signs are placed. Calls from CE to spammer liquidators seem to have been very effective in eliminating that spam.

Please see my posting of "New Style of Signs" dated 12-5-04 here in the Texas section. This scam has been going on the the Cypress area since last Summer since it is not really model home furniture. I have removed quite a number but this must be a different group since my signs did not have the $300 fine statement. Maybe they added it after they left the Cypress area. The signs are always put out in great numbers. My wife was picking up some and the man in a F-150 Ford starting following her and flashing his lights and pulling up on her bumper. She drove to the fire station that was near and called the constable (who never showed up). The guy finally left. He followed me another time and accused me of getting his signs. He saw me pullout out of a drive way where I had removed a large plywood sign. I stopped and asked him why and he said I was removing his signs. I told him I was just pulling out of the driveway from work and if he did not leave I was calling the sheriff. He left but never looked in my car. I went back to his truck and was on the agressive side.
I was also harassed last weekend by an off duty HPD cop who said I could not get the signs even if they were illegal since they were the property of the sign owner. I had to leave a few on the ground for him. The City of Houston encourages citizens on their web site to remove signs illegal sigs. Some time you cannot win!
I found the "I'm Ugly Litter" web site (UGLYLITTER.COM) and downloaded their flyer and put about 20 out this weekend on signs. Pretty neat little one page message. I used bright paper with 3M spray adhesive to put it on. One builder pulled them off his signs. I did not use anything about CAUSS to lead them here!
