"Midway/Bushway help needed"

I harvested about a dozen signs yesterday from the Midway/Bushway area (north Dallas), but one of them was a little too high for me, it's on a telephone pole on the east side of Midway between Rosemeade and the Bushway (just north of the Phillips station). I'd be very grateful if someone could yank it down for me. Thanks!

Got it! - At seven feet up, it was a little too high to yank.
But, one good whack with the sharky stick and it came flying off.
Managed to get it before the afternoon rush hour traffic got too bad.

We Buy Cars, who else. They're about the on ones left that are still nailing to the utility poles. I guess they've figured out that the stakes are costing more than shingle nails and the lose rate is just as great.

Wow, great "service," thanks!!

Most of the signs I harvested yesterday were "We Buy Cars" signs, with a sprinkling of "We Buy Houses" signs thrown in. All of the "Houses" signs and all but two of the "Cars" signs were on stakes, only a couple were on poles, and I managed to get the other one, but this one was nailed down pretty tight.

I think newbie has a spare or two of the sharky sticks left over from our public awareness demo.
Might suggest you meet up with newbie if you would like to have one for you vehicle.
They don't take up much room and sure come in handy for those nailed on the utility poles.

I do pretty well knocking signs off of poles with the stakes
that I get from, um, stake signs. Instant re-use! The only
disadvantage over a sharky stick is that there's nothing on
it to catch the sign, to keep it from flying off of the pole.

I just started carrying a little three-pronged "hand-hoe" around with me, I think that might do the trick, I'll let you know.

Let us know how that works. I think I have one of those also, I'll give it a try next time.

I personally found that it's the force of the weight generated by the end of the sharky stick that is most helpful in getting the sign to pop off.

If my wife were with me, she would say "jump", I would say how hi, and that gets those signs down everytime. Never give up.

My extension hoe/cultivator from Home Depot finally came apart while I was swinging from a local tree service sign. It no longer extends; however, a well-placed nut and bolt have secured it at the 2.5' length. It is important to make sure of the trajectory of any fasteners(especially roofing nails) that are dislodged during our activities. I've noticed that even with roofing-felt washers used, the nails usually stay in the utility poles but the occasional one is sent flying...Keep up the good work!

There has been a lot posted on this subject in the past.
Thanks for reminding us again. We've always stressed that the trajectory should be away from the street and traffic if at all possible.
If not, then wait until the traffic has passed. A bandit sign is not worth damaging someone's vehicle and then face a possible law suit.

I always notice where the nails go so I can pick them up if the dislodge. I find, however, that the rapid "whack" almost always leaves the nails in the pole.

Newbie, any truth to this rumor? I spent about an hour after work today harvesting "We Buy Cars" signs that were very high on telephone poles and very firmly nailed in. (Each of them was printed on the back of another spam sign, first time I've seen him use this technique.) I got every one of them, but some of them were brutal. If you have a sharky stick to spare, I'd love to take it off your hands. (Trade you lunch for a sharky stick?)

If it's OK, I'd love to take you up on your offer even before Newbie gets back. There were so many "We Buy Cars" signs yesterday, and they were so much higher up on telephone poles than they've ever been before, it leads me to suspect (paranoiac that I am) that the guy is following this forum and knows that I have a problem with those kinds of signs -- in which case I should expect another flood of them any day now. You know how to email me, yes?
