Well I just couldn't let it continue in my part of Knoxville. Seems those "We buy Homes" Cruds started their sign posting again. Well I stopped that. I Sharked over 20 of these signs along Chapman Hwy alone. I also called them and told them their signs were taken down and that they were illegal. I also sent them an email. Oh by the way the Member Mastermind is a spammer. The "Cheap Insurance for as low as $60 a month attempted to post their signs, until I stopped that. Took down over 20 nailed and ground signs. Oh sorry to the Little Cesers pizza place that lost its ground signs along the city right of way, but the ones that are banner type with the big metal poles I won't mess with because part may be on the shopping centers property. The worst was the Concert promoters. They plastered Chapman Hwy for a May 1 concert at the Thompson Boiling Arena. I took down over 30 of those posters. I actually have adopted Sunday as my Sharking Day. I also again wrote to the Mayor of Knoxville telling him about this problem. Guess the only way I will get the city's attention is to make a big media event out of it. This is my way of paying back some for the public assistance I receive. It wears me out, but does give me a since of accomplishment. Since October of 2003 I have taken down over 325 illgal signs

Keep up the good work! It's tough when it seems that you are the only one helping to clean an area. I was pleasantly surprised this weekend when I drove along my usual route--planning to remove the same type of spam again this time--someone had already removed some signs I spotted earlier and the area looked great for once! I did drive to Gwinnett County, just outside of I-285--Jimmy Carter and I-85 if you know the area--and must have driven past 3-4 dozen signs on that short trip. Keep working on your area and spreading the word--most folks enjoy clean streets and neighborhoods and may be willing to help!

daclark42,
Did you have any success in contacting the Knoxville chapter of the Keep America Beautiful effort? They seemed very sympathetic a couple of years ago when I had some email contact with them.

Well I had gone to the Yahoo group that I believe this group has but no one ever posted or responded to my postings. I did though hear today from Cathy Chesney with the Mayor's office. She was asked to call me by the Mayor regarding this issue. She gave me the name of an individual with Keep Knoxville Beautiful that I am going to call.

One step you might take is to get the issue before city council and public. Normally city councils will allow one indivdual ten minutes to state your case. They will normally cap each presentation to 30 minutes per group.
If you can get two or three friends to go along and donate their speaking time to you, you can make one heck of presentation in the time alloted.
I've spoken before several city councils and believe me,they do listen and will act, especially when the news media is taking notes.
