"PPL - no signs on poles"

The following text was in PPL Electric Utilities' "Connect" newsletter, April 2001 issue, included in the electric bill. PPL = Pennsylvania Power & Light.

"Please don't post signs on our poles.

Spring is the season for municipal elections, yard sales and festivals. PPL Electric Utilities reminds you that posting signs on utility poles is illegal and unsafe.

Pennsylvania law prohibits the use of nails, tacks or metal fasteners on utility poles. Many municipalities have local ordinances that prohibit fastening signs to utility poles.

Occasionally, PPL workers must climb poles to repair power lines and equipment. Nails, tacks and staples can injure PPL workers, or tear the insulated clothing they wear to protect themselves from electric shock."

Great quote to use when I send an email to the Spammers. Perhaps they may care about the fact that someone could get hurt. We'll see.
