Finally, some action against blight of illegal signs plaguing Asheville

Asheville City Council’s crack- down on illegal, temporary signs posted within 30 feet of nonresidential roads gets a big thumb’s-up. These “temporary” signs blight streets and roadways and often end up as even more unsightly litter. In some instances, they actually create obstructions that cause safety concerns.
Last Tuesday, Council voted unanimously to approve an ordinance that gives the city power to immediately remove the signs from roadsides and utility poles.
