CAUSS has received word from a reporter for the Orlando (FL) Sentinel that an un-named county in the Orlando area is seeking an injunction against a specific spammer for chronic spamming.
One of the directors of CAUSS spent quite some time on the phone addressing the issues of the likes of "We Buy Houses" as opposed to Home Builder, Realtor and political signs.
The reporter had obviously spent quite some time reseraching information on the website pertaining to all three issues. The issue of Herbalife came up and how it came about that Herbalife was abruptly stopped in their sign placements.
The (land)sharks in the Orlando FL., may expect an article on this issue sometime in the immediate future. Please let us know when and if that article appears.

I have been removing street spam in the east Orlando (Colonial Drive / Alafaya Trail / CR 419) for the past few years.
I have probably removed and disposed of over 1000 signs so far. Our most common offendors are "I BUY HOUSES" (and many variations of this) and local small-time churches. Could you imagine going to a particular church because you saw their illegal street spam sign??
We are heading in to election time and we are starting to see tons of street spam for local politicians. It's no wonder that many people think that street spam is legal.

I live in the Central part of Florida (West of Orlando) and found CAUSS through the Sentinel article. I have been taking down signs for many years here. I'm amazed that the code and law enforcement folks are so mis-informed about these signs (maybe that's why they're working in the country). Some have gone as far as to say they're private property and shouldn't be touched!!!
In the State of Florida it is illegal to 1) post ANY sign on a state road right-of-way, and 2) to post a sign on a utility pole. the reasoning I was given by DOT folks is that the frames or sticks used on roadway signs are dangerous to mowing crews and vehicles that have to pull off the road and the nails/staples/tapes/etc used to mount signs on poles shorten their service life by making them more vulnerable to insects and weather.

No question about anything you say. One suggestion you might give to anyone that has doubts about Florida's laws on signs and this includes any uninformed CE officer.
Tell them to get in touch with Rick Wolf up in Alachua County (Gainsville area). He's the past President of the American Association of Code Enforceemnt (AACE). He can enlighten them on FL law and probably most of the municipalities in the state.

That's great. Not only can we tell them that we can remove it. But it becomes our property the moment we pick it up. Something to remember then: If they are still in the area putting up signs, it is not yet abandoned.
