Just curious, is this violation more than a Class "C" misdemeanor in CT? If so, you have a tremendous amount of power in an "Official Citizens Complaint".
We had very good luck and a lot of cooperation with our local CE's using the ID's of the spammers when filing complaints. Normally when you file a complaint of violation, someone has to act on it, or give you a reason why.

The CT statute isn't clear on the "level" of the violation; I'll have to research further. It just says there's a $50 fine per sign.
What I do have is a local police officer who say he's been itching to catch a spammer (he's been watching for them when he's on night shift) and told me that if I could find one who was real local he'd go and arrest him instead of mailing a summons.

This is what I was referring to. If the fine is only $50, then it's most likely a Class "C" misdemeanor. I don't' know about CT, but you can't arrest someone on a Class "C" unless they have outstanding warants. Take him to the station house, Maybe. Arrest, don't think so.
Most states that have fines above $200 are likely classed as Class "A" misdemeanors which allows the arresting officer to at least take them in to post an appearence bond. Otherwise it's nothing more than a parking ticket. That's a major reason most PD's simply turn their head, it's below their job level to issue such tickets or warnings.

Another one of the many things I've learned since joining CAUSS.
Thanks a bunch for the info; I'll delve into the State website to find out more. Maybe the fact that it's $50 per sign would elevate it to the higher status if the quantity of signs were taken in aggregate...?
I definitely have some research to do.
PS: Our town doesn't really have a Code Enforcement person (per se) as I understand the function to be down your way in Texas...do you think they'd be receptive to the idea of having a volunteer in that slot? Any precedent for this that you know of?

Perhaps. Also, most cities consider it a separate violation for every day that every sign is up. So do the math; for example, assume one sign on every corner of a standard intersection for a week = 4 signs times 7 days times $50 each = $1,400. You've got to recruit a lot of MLM'ers for your downline to cover fines like that. The difficult part is getting Code Enforcement (or your local equivalent) to go pursue those people; remind them of how much money they're leaving on the table when they let spammers get away with their illegal activities, maybe that might spur some interest. -- Remora Remora@Resourceful.com

Do a web search for COP (Citizens on Patrol) or VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service) and you will find some precedents. I am a COP in Fort Worth. We are eyes and ears only, trained in recognition and reporting, and have no authority. Some cities, however, give volunteers some authority. For example, http://www.ci.mesa.az.us/police/vipaddtl.htm describes volunteer opportunities in Mesa, AZ. One of them is:
Preserve the Rights of the Disabled If you wish to help ensure that parking spaces designated for the disabled remain available to them, please join our Disabled Parking Enforcement team! You will patrol public parking spaces at malls, stores, apartment complexes and other businesses for vehicles not legally parked in spaces reserved for the disabled and write citations for violators.
If the city won't institute a volunteer Code Enforcement program, see if they will act on formal complaints. The Animal Control Department here will issue a citation to an irresponsible pet owner based on a notarized complaint. One of these days, I will see a street spammer in action and I'll try filing a notarized complaint with Code Compliance.

The guy has a guestbook at his site. You could always go to his guestbook and paste a copy of the Connecticut sign law, as well as any local ordinances that could help. It might not stop him, but at least he'd be aware of the law.
By the way, almost all of those "Financial Freedom" web sites look exactly the same. A few of them put a personalized letter and/or photo on the front page, but the rest just use the cookie-cutter template. That sure makes it easy to choose which particular multilevel marketer I should decide to blow my fortune on.

I took a look and the "guestbook" is really nothing more than a form to email thing. We can just send whatever to guestbook@uwillto.com

funny U mention it, but I noticed a sign from him on Rt 32. in Montville. Just one, but it was big. I've noted that Mr./Mrs. icgold.com is particularly agrgessive also. I've easily ripped down at least 30 signs from him/her in Norwich/Groton and elswhere. It's cheaper than normal though; simply bright yellow chloroplast with black magic marker with varing catch phases.

Haven't seen that one on this side of the river. I guess you'll find out if they're stupid as well as aggresive if they put more signs up.
I've seen the "magic marker" signs, but only in the "need 29 people to lose 29 pounds" type. Not sure if they're actually handwritten or just look it...
When I call one of those people, I inform them that what they REALLY need is 29 more signs because I ripped up all their old ones!

Hey, well, if they're going to be advertising 24 hours a day (the signs are still uglying up the area all night), then they ought to be ready to "do business" 24 hours a day.

Yup, I spent about 2 hours tonight out along I-395 up to Lisbon and also went into Jewit City. Brett has been quite the active individual. I took down about 5 of his signs and also from someone who runs "athome-biz.com" I wouldn't be surprised if brett also runs that since they appeared with the same timing in pretty much the same places, often right across the road from each other. Also noticed some bold sucker posted signs (very high up, 15-20 ft., and sturdy) right in town along West Main street in Norwich. One sign was so sturdily attached with huge square headed nails, that my sharky stick simply shattered the sign into bits (I picked up all the pieces). Someone had all ready gotton to three out of the four with a can of spray paint. Also nabbed quit a bit of pocket and tear tab spam. www.findfreedom.com/cashx was prevalent there. Seems to be run by Roger Corriveau and Joseph Fouquett. It seems like yet another arm of the Excel Pyramid scheme. I left brett a scathing message warning him not to put up any more signs and reminding him of his much wasted time and money as well as the lawlessness of his activities. Also warned the rest of them in the usual way.
BTW, I found another of those "wood sheds for sale" signs and the darn things are made of sheet metal! Not too heavy as the sharky stick penetrated, but *very* securly fastened. I have to get a lead weight or somthing for the end of the stick to get those down me thinks.

athome biz isn't the Brettster; but they were appearing about the same time around here also.
athome biz is our pal Bobby from Rhode Island:
Life Care Products 51 Quail Lane Charlestown, RI 02813 Storrs, Robert 401 364-5095
He hasn't been back here for a couple of months - I really unloaded on him on the phone the second time.
Maybe you should give him a call and let him know that he's not real welcome in your neck of the woods either.
