"Fitness Zone appears to be down and out"

Folks,

It looks like my complaining to the police did some good. After I complained to the Brookfield police they called the Fitness guy. He never called them back, but stopped posting signs there and did only Danbury. He had been doing both. So then I went to the Danbury police and spoke with a sympathetic officer who also called and left a message. As far as I know Mr. Fitness never returned that call either, but now there are no more signs anywhere. I'm hoping this is the end of it. It's been going on for a year and a half!

Also, at Redstone's suggestion, I've started calling some of the phone numbers on signs. There are four different "Finally Affordable Insurance" offenders in the area, and the first one I called and threatened never put up any more. Then I called another one and told her I met with the police and they are prepared to arrest her so she'd better have at least $5k for a lawyer. She too hasn't posted any more since. Though she made a big point of saying that she personally never put up signs, that it was done by hired help. So...

All of the signs advertise insurance from www.megainsurance.com so I'm thinking of contacting them to see if I too can be an "agent." Then I'll tell them I'm old and need help putting up signs. And then hopefully I'll get the names and home address of the people that actually put up the signs around here.

Congratulations! This is the first occasion I've heard of in CT with a local sign spammer rather than the MLMs, etc, and you got him to stop - great work!

And I don't suspect that you'll have any "personal" problems with him, as he knows that the police know who he is...

About the health insurance people, see your regular email for a message.

Red,

Well in the end it hasn't worked. After I complained to the Brookfield police and they called him, he stopped putting up signs there and did them in Danbury only. After complaining to the Danbury police - and I was there when they called and left a message on his machine threatening "action" - he still puts them up there. And now he's putting them up in Brookfield again.

This guy is unbelievable, and has brass balls. He really needs to be arrested and put through the system.

My Brookfield police contact was sympathetic to my cause, so I'll call him yet again on Monday and see if he's willing to go to the Fitness Zone in person. The Danbury officer said all he can do is call and threaten, but he can't do much more without a complaint from the property owner. In this case the property owner is the town, since this jerk puts his signs on stop signs and yield signs!

Besides my idea about obscenities (elsewhere) for regular spam, I was thinking of getting bumper stickers that say "Many dissatisfied customers" and paste them over this guy's signs.

That may be the right thing to do. Too bad this is so far from me.
