"GUN SHOW SIGN SPAM UP AGAIN"

Crossroads of the West, sponsors of a number of gun shows, has put up signs promoting this weekend's weapons show in Orange County.

The number of signs is less than previous years, however they are up and illegally placed as usual. I have removed what I've found.

Remember, these are the immorele jerks who've actually put gun show signs up on school fences.

Any help in spotting and removing the gun show signs is much appreciaed.

What makes them "immoral"?

.

Oh, there's a hint of cool in the air, and Winter is coming! I've got to gather more firewood... And Sign stakes make great fire starters!

Ack! Bandit Signs are LITTER!

I think the bridal show and gun show people who do all the spamming in southern California don't organize the shows in Texas. There are lots of gun shows here in Texas and they use the big arenas but they seem to use billboards and the sports section of the newspaper. I am not sure what the bridal show people do for advertising.

Newbie, you are right. The bridal show folks are among the worst in S. California. They can put up hundreds to promote a given show, and there are a dozen or more shows per year.

Interestingly, I've phoned almost all the show promoters to protest their illegal signs. At first, I thought it was one large wedding/bridal show outfit who organized so many shows. In talking to the various sponsors, it seems like it's a lot of independents.

Most told me they feel compelled to put up signs since their competitors do (talk about lemming metality).

The bridal show sign spam starts anew about mid-December (I expect to see the first batches in about 2 weeks) and seems to occur about once every month or so until about August of the following year.

I know for a fact that a local sign producer in Santa Ana called COGS South is responsible for most of this spam. Maybe the S. California regional bridal shows have a local sign resource whereas those in Texas don't? I truly have no idea why California is so...uh..."blessed" with so many of these signs. Trust me, on my watch few survive to do the show sponsor much good.

Hello Dogglovr,
Thank you for working to keep Orange County clear of street spam.
I lived there for 13 years, 6 months and 2 days.
(Can you tell I miss the place and my friends there?)

Now I live in a GECC (generic east coast city)

You know, at the time I lived in O.C., I do not remember seeing street spam, except for the work at home craze which started in late 2001. I did remove a number of those signs.

I just discovered this web site this week.
Since I moved here 3 & 1/2 years ago, I was apalled at the unsightly sign andI have spent many hours ripping down signs and making calls to spammers complaining about the mess.

I really miss O.C. and the mild weather there. I keep up with the news by reading the Register online.
How about that Haidl rape trial? The punks almost got acccquited, now they are facing long sentences in state prison.
Take care, dogglovr.
bye

ripper1114,

Thanks for your sign removal efforts when you lived in So. Cal.

The blight continues, and I estimate my haul has been 6,000 illegal signs over about 5 years. When I first started it was largely Herbalife junk signs, and now its a full blown spammer epidemic from many other illcit businesses.

Anyone reading this from S. Cal. is invited to help me combat this persistent spam:

1) Real Estate Investor Seeks Apprentice (especially found at freeway off ramps and shopping center exits). These began appearing about a year ago and are placed very aggressively (but they don't last long).

2) Gun/Bridal/Tattoo/Wedding/Spa&Pool/Wealth-building expo signs. (Placed on fences, light standards, telephone poles, etc.). The sign company just leaves their blight up to rot long after the show--but I yank down their junk before the show within the territory I cleanse.

3) Home loan signs (found most commonly staple-gunned to telephone poles and also at freeway off ramps).

4) Never ending furniture store sale or going out of business signs (found in rights of way, freeway offramps, hammered onto telephone poles--basically everywhere they are not wanted).

5)Now Renting apartment signs in neon glow colors that seem to actually be rent-to-own schemes (find these signs jabbed into grassy areas in many rights of ways far from the supposed apartment complex). They are so common that many people seem to kick them over in disgust; the spammers replenish the blight every week or so.

6) name-of-city.singles.org: A recent, but pesky arrival (others have noted their appearance around the nation). These are really cheesy signs that look homemade. They are placed in large clusters in high traffic areas near freeways and shopping centers.

There are other street spam varieties as well. I'd welcome any help in stemming the tidal wave of junk signs that detract from all that makes Southern California appealing.

Hi Dogglovrr,
Thanks for all your efforts clearing street spam. I found that calling business owners can reduce the problem. First, I use a calling card, so the call can not be traced back.I ask about the product, get a name and as much info as possible. I use a false name & title saying I am with the business owners assoc. or home owners assoc. I speak politely and reasonably, and make it clear that the signs will not tolerated in a specific area. Of course they want a call back no., and I give them the code enforcement / zoning office tel. number.
If that does not work, then I flood them with junk phone calls. I make some calls myself, and I call other spammers, and instruct them to call the particular bussiness, telling them that person is interested in their product or service. After a week of that, most people are sick and tired of junk phone calls. Then I call them back and tell that junk signs cause junk phone calls. I think it is funny, spammers calling each other, trying to make sales.

One lady put "child care in my home" signs all over the place.
I looked into it and found out she was running day care out of an apt, illegal in this city. I could not convince her to stop spamming.
This was last year during the highly publicized Michael Jackson child molestation trial. I called the lady up and asked, "Is this the Michael Jackson day care center?" She did not appreciate that.
she stopped spamming
gotta run
bye

So I called her up and asked s

By the way, this is not a strictly gun issue.

I have seen the same signs for "Bridal Shows", among others.
