On a recent trip south, I was appalled by what I saw in San Jose. Especially apartment complexes, with signs on traffic islands in the middle of streets (stevens creek, moorpark, bollinger road).
A ton of low cost insurance and room for rent (though a long distance number. go figure)

Visalia, on the other hand, looked really clean in the areas I was.
