"East Valley Tribune - ... Battle Against Roadside Spam"

This FRONT PAGE article, with a color photo, is on the bottom left of the front page of the East Valley Tribune! It continues on the inside of page two.
The article is also on-line, for now, at: http://www.eastvalleytribune.com

This is no small town paper. It covers the eastern cities of the Phoenix-Metro area.

My thanks go out to the reporter, Kristina Davis, for a great article! She did her research. She spoke with multiple sources including; Code Enforcement, the Police, and members of CAUSS.

Here are some quotes from the beginning of the article:

Covert operations battle against roadside spam

By Kristina Davis, Tribune

Lose 10 Pounds. Work at Home. We Buy Houses.
Thousands of these signs are illegally staked in the ground along East Valley freeway ramps and taped on light poles at busy intersections.

To some, it is cheap advertising. For others, it is trash on a stick.

The signs have sparked a passionate underground war, complete with its own warlike lingo, that is being waged on city streets and in Internet chat forums in the Valley and across the nation.

Paid sign "bandits" covertly post the advertisements for local and national businesses, and sign "sharks" are the concerned residents who remove the signs or spray paint over them in retaliation.

Code compliance enforcers and police officers around the East Valley also join in, removing several thousand signs a year.

...

Sharks are fighting a battle against the signs that litter the city, and many across the nation have joined forces under the Texas-based group Citizens Against Ugly Street Spam.

...

I never thought I would find myself arguing such a silly topic but I just can’t help from amusing myself. You see, I live in the Queen Creek area, I have seen these signs go up first hand; I have seen people take them down as well. But what you did simply made a bad situation even worse. Now my streets are not littered with signs from Daycares or Pet Boarding Businesses but with cut up, spray painted, junk. These signs are now an eyesore; thanks to you. You have the audacity to paint over, cut up, and then leave a flyer attached with info for this website. That simply makes you a HIPROCITE! You destroy what other hard working, well meaning, people put up because in your twisted, lonely little mind, you think you are doing good for a cause. But for what cause, to promote your website? So now that these signs are gratified and there is the remnants of your destruction on the ground, who is going to do the right thing and clean the mess up. I live in this neighborhood that you decided to invade with your self appointed crusade, now I have to clean up the mess you left behind. Do us all a favor and get a life, get a job, get a hobby, do something with your life and stay out of my neighborhood!!

I looked at the caged animals in the shelter...the cast offs of human society. I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness and betrayal. And I was angry

Thanks TS - That's the point we've tried to make to the folks doing all the complaining.

If the de-faced signs bother you all that much - take them down for Petes sake. That's what we do.

There's more than a 50/50 chance that CAUSS sign sharks didn't do the slicing and dicing in the first place.
But if they did, the signs will come down after a few days.

You said it probably wasn't done by a "Causs Shark" Yet "NoSpam" says he did it. He also goes on to say that he always takes down the signs, then why are they still here. You made a problem even bigger, you are no better then those that put up the signs when you leave them in that manner.
I thank those that actually clean up our streets, I really do. But this particular incident only made it messier. No Spam was more worried about promoting this website then actually helping to clean up the mess.
Some of you go about your cause in a good way, for that I applauded you. However NoSpam needs to take a few lessons from you if he actually wants to make a positive difference.

By the way, I do not sell or own anything, nor do I put up those signs. Oh except when my dog was lost, and those I took down a week later.

>Now my
>streets are not littered with signs from Daycares or Pet
>Boarding Businesses but with cut up, spray painted, junk.

So pick it up. Where's your civic pride, whiner?

>These signs are now an eyesore; thanks to you.

They were pretty before?

>You have the audacity to paint over, cut up, and then leave a flyer attached with info for this website. That simply makes you
>a HIPROCITE!

Maybe so, but I do have a dictionary.

You destroy what other hard working, well
>meaning, people put up

So, as long as they're nice people, it's OK for them to trash our towns?

>So now that these signs are gratified

Gratified? You REALLY need a dictionary.

>and there is the remnants of your
>destruction on the ground, who is going to do the right
>thing and clean the mess up.

How about you, if it bothers you so much?

>I live in this neighborhood
>that you decided to invade with your self appointed crusade,
>now I have to clean up the mess you left behind.

If you'd cleaned up the mess the SPAMMERS left behind, there would have been no problem would there?

>Do us all
>a favor and get a life, get a job, get a hobby, do something
>with your life and stay out of my neighborhood!!

Got a life. also got a hobby, which is keeping my town clean.

Just so the person making complaints that Redstone replies to doesn't get the wrong impression
about this being a local or regional issue, Redstone hails from the very opposite end of the country.

Well - I wasn't going to say anything about the grammer and spelling but since Redstone brought it up.
Oh Well.

That's right. But through the miracle of the Internet, I get to issue corrections to trolls wherever they're located. Isn't technology great?

Yeah, I know, I did leave out a comma in one of my sentences. Will do better next time (that's a joke).
