"Dish Network , Rent to Own, Pillow-top Spam, Etc." Fri Jul-20-07 05:31 PM by NoSpam
It has been fairly clean in my area. Now I am seeing an increase in street spam again.
If you leave any illegal signs any out there for any length of time the idiots see them and they think it is OK to add to the mess.
I cleaned up a bunch of signs from my area and a Dish Network spammer posted signs in the newly cleaned area. I removed those signs and left one sharked sign with an orange sticker tagging it as an illegal sign.
An idiot came and posted handwritten coroplast pillow-top spam signs all over the area including right beside the sign marked "ILLEGAL"! I called this spammer and left a message pointing out that his signs were illegal. I also mentioned that he should have noticed that he was posting right beside a sign that was tagged "Remove this ILLEGAL sign." I asked him to remove his signs.
I checked and the only sign removed was the Dish Network one tagged as illegal. So I sharked all of the new signs and tagged one of the pillow-top spam signs with a nice orange sticker. Maybe that will help get the spammer's attention!

Maybe 4-5 years ago, I was successful in contacting both Dish and DirecTV to get them to stop spamming. I gave the sign details to the corporate "distributor relations" people telling them they were illegal and local authorities could hold them responsible because their name/logo was on the sign. They deny responsibility saying it is independent contractors. Nevertheless, the signs stopped.
The pillow-top signs you mention. Are these pillow top mattresses? These signs appear now and again in Dallas area over the past 7-10 years. They are usually hand lettered with a black marker on yellow Coroplast-type plastic. I always thought it was strange to sell mattresses with roadside spam.

Yes they are selling mattresses. These signs are black marker hand lettered on white coroplast.
The recorded message reached when calling the number on the sign was giberish. I don't see how he expects to sell anything with a nonsense recording on his voicemail.

I think that the rent to own and pillow-top spammers are one and the same. These illegal signs are popping up side by side at the same times.
The sharked signs were removed by the spammer and replaced with new illegal signs last night or today. He even replaced at least one sign that was tagged as illegal.
He has been called and notified by phone twice that these signs are illegal. And, he has even picked up signs tagged as illegal. He can not claim that he doesn't know that his signs are illegal. Because this spammer is now knowingly posting illegal signs, I have expanded my patrol area to remove more signs. He has earned extra attention!!! What a fool!

About a month ago I had to walk from Ray&Rural to Ray&48th to pick up my car at Sun Devil Auto... I must have taken down about 16 large white signs for some NFL season package. It was sweet since they couldn't have been up for more than 2 days.
I also snagged a couple of same at Chandler&Rural the next day while walking my dog.
How much do those signs (the good ones that are bigger, can't be ripped, have twin metal posts) cost anyway? It's somewhat more satisfying when I can mentally put a total of wasted money to whoever did it.
