Hey, does anyone know why the local SINGLE? signs might suddenly have a new URL for the same town. They went from MytownSingles.COM to MytownDating.COM in the last batch (that went up after 10PM and were down before 5AM on my way to work). Just wondering if that means the old URL has been trashed for a new one because a new individual has picked up the local "franchise" for generating leads. Anyone have some sense of how this works?
I'm hoping the previous person gave up here because I never gave them more than 6-8 hours of visibility before I ripped down all the signs.

I don't think it is significant. I imagine they change URLs so that they can track visits from the new illegal signs they put up.
A year or so ago, a sign placer contacted me and said he was through putting up singles signs. He said that he found out about the job on the web (probably Craigslist). He dealt with the company via email and the signs were shipped from their sign printing company.
He got paid something like $1/sign. They tracked his placements by monitoring visits to their website from the area. Note that their web-based signup form asks for zipcode and probably telephone number, which includes the prefix (NXX in phone terminology). Thus they could track signups down to a precise geographical area.
The best way to deal with illegal singles signs is to remove them before they see the light of day. A better idea would be to get the attorney general in your state to prosecute.
Others have suggested putting CAUSS stickers on the signs: HELP REMOVE ILLEGAL SIGNS www.CAUSS.ORG
Or making a stencil to paint over the signs,
Or adding a sticker "All ####". That would really mess with their demographics and revenue stream.

I take them down the moment I see them, and I make rounds daily. I always thought it would be funny and effective to change the SINGLE? to DESPERATE? or UGLY? but I don't want to contribute to the blight. Another thought I had was to put another sign above theirs that said something like "As seen on ripoffreport.com" for a few days before I took them down... but again, I don't want to add to the problem, even temporarily.

I too, go out of my way to remove these as soon as they appear... Sometime 80 to 100 of them appear around here, and they areGONE immediately. I certainly do NOT ever add to the blight. It's litter, and removed.

Oh, there's a hint of cool in the air, and Winter is coming! I've got to gather more firewood... And Sign stakes make great fire starters!
